Su misi\u00f3n ser\u00e1 recopilar datos sobre la composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de las part\u00edculas de sal marina, humo, contaminantes artificiales y polvo en el aire \u2014denominadas colectivamente aerosoles\u2014 y las nubes, su movimiento y la interacci\u00f3n entre ambos. Comprender la naturaleza de las part\u00edculas atmosf\u00e9ricas y las nubes es crucial para descifrar c\u00f3mo est\u00e1n cambiando el clima y la calidad del aire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pace-ciencia-1024x683.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9280\" style=\"width:508px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pace-ciencia-1024x683.webp 1024w, https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pace-ciencia-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pace-ciencia-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pace-ciencia.webp 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>La luz que sale del Sol se mueve en diferentes direcciones como una onda: esto se llama luz no polarizada, seg\u00fan explic\u00f3 Brian Cairns, cient\u00edfico adjunto del proyecto PACE. Sin embargo, cuando interact\u00faa con algo como una nube o una part\u00edcula de aerosol, la luz puede oscilar m\u00e1s en una direcci\u00f3n que en otras: ahora es luz polarizada. Esta peculiaridad del comportamiento de la luz puede ayudar a los cient\u00edficos a aprender m\u00e1s sobre las caracter\u00edsticas y las interacciones entre los aerosoles y las got\u00edculas de agua en el cielo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos han estado observando los aerosoles desde el espacio durante d\u00e9cadas, aunque la comunidad no ha tenido datos de polarimetr\u00eda desde hace una d\u00e9cada, se\u00f1al\u00f3 Otto Hasekamp, cient\u00edfico principal de SRON. PACE proporcionar\u00e1 datos polarim\u00e9tricos desde m\u00faltiples puntos de vista y, debido a los avances tecnol\u00f3gicos en los instrumentos, los datos ser\u00e1n de mejor calidad que nunca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los dos innovadores polar\u00edmetros de PACE, HARP2 y SPEXone, se complementan ya que miden diferentes cosas. HARP2, construido en la Universidad de Maryland, condado de Baltimore, observar\u00e1 cuatro longitudes de ondas de luz desde hasta 60 \u00e1ngulos diferentes. Por su parte, SPEXone, construido en el Instituto Holand\u00e9s de Investigaci\u00f3n Espacial (SRON, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) y la empresa Airbus Netherlands B.V., mirar\u00e1 hacia abajo en una franja m\u00e1s estrecha, utilizando cinco \u00e1ngulos de visi\u00f3n, pero observando la luz con una resoluci\u00f3n hiperespectral, esto es, la gama completa de colores de un arco\u00edris. Juntos ofrecer\u00e1n una imagen de la atm\u00f3sfera de la Tierra con detalles sin precedentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeseamos medir las propiedades de los aerosoles porque los aerosoles tienen un efecto sobre el clima\u201d, dijo Hasekamp. Los aerosoles reflejan la luz hacia el espacio y tambi\u00e9n pueden absorberla, lo cual influye en la cantidad de energ\u00eda del Sol que llega a la superficie de la Tierra. Los aerosoles tambi\u00e9n afectan la formaci\u00f3n y las propiedades de las nubes; pero los cient\u00edficos no conocen completamente los detalles de estas relaciones. El programa Primeros Usuarios de PACE promueve la integraci\u00f3n de los datos de esta misi\u00f3n en aplicaciones pr\u00e1cticas de la ciencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las mediciones de los polar\u00edmetros de PACE tambi\u00e9n ayudar\u00e1n a mejorar nuestra comprensi\u00f3n del clima de la Tierra.
