Identificar la posici\u00f3n del enemigo antes de ser detectado fue decisivo para planificar combates, dise\u00f1ar rutas y marcar el rumbo de las operaciones. Durante d\u00e9cadas ese trabajo qued\u00f3 en manos de las antenas mec\u00e1nicas que giraban como un faro tecnol\u00f3gico, que ofrec\u00edan una mirada constante pero limitada por su velocidad y capacidad. La llegada de los radares \u201cActive Electronically Scanned Array\u201d (AESA) cambi\u00f3 esa ecuaci\u00f3n: ya no se trata solo de detectar un blanco, sino de interpretarlo, priorizarlo y compartirlo en segundos dentro de una red de defensa mucho m\u00e1s compleja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A simple vista, un panel AESA puede parecer una superficie lisa en la nariz de un avi\u00f3n caza, pero detr\u00e1s de esa apariencia discreta hay cientos o miles de m\u00f3dulos emisores y receptores que trabajan de forma independiente. Gracias a ese dise\u00f1o, el haz se dirige de manera digital sin mover piezas f\u00edsicas, lo que le permite vigilar grandes \u00e1reas del cielo casi al instante y en simult\u00e1neo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La capacidad multitarea es uno de los grandes saltos tecnol\u00f3gicos. Un radar AESA puede seguir blancos a gran distancia, mapear el terreno, rastrear movimientos en el mar y, al mismo tiempo, sostener funciones de guerra electr\u00f3nica. Los fabricantes norteamericanos Raytheon y Northrop Grumman, especialistas en sistemas de radarizaci\u00f3n y plataformas aeroespaciales, ya integran modos aire-aire, aire-superficie y autoprotecci\u00f3n en un solo sensor, que aportan una ventaja decisiva en misiones prolongadas o en escenarios con interferencias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/doppler-radar-nws-tampa.jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/doppler-radar-nws-tampa.jpg.webp 1024w, https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/doppler-radar-nws-tampa.jpg-300x168.webp 300w, https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/doppler-radar-nws-tampa.jpg-768x431.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, esta tecnolog\u00eda es m\u00e1s resistente a ataques electr\u00f3nicos. Al controlar la forma del haz y modular sus emisiones, disminuye la probabilidad de ser detectado y mantiene la operaci\u00f3n aun cuando algunos m\u00f3dulos fallan. Eso representa un cambio importante respecto de los radares mec\u00e1nicos que depend\u00edan de una \u00fanica fuente cr\u00edtica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los cazas de quinta generaci\u00f3n adoptaron esta tecnolog\u00eda como est\u00e1ndar, pero lo interesante es que plataformas anteriores tambi\u00e9n comenzaron a actualizarse. El caso del F-16 lo muestra con claridad: no todos los ejemplares llevan AESA de f\u00e1brica, pero la versi\u00f3n m\u00e1s moderna conocida como F-16V o Block 70\/72 incorpora el radar AN\/APG-83 SABR desarrollado por Northrop Grumman. Este sistema permite al Fighting Falcon acercarse al rendimiento de sensores de nueva generaci\u00f3n, con mayor capacidad para detectar y seguir m\u00faltiples objetivos a larga distancia, operar en condiciones atmosf\u00e9ricas adversas y obtener im\u00e1genes detalladas del terreno mediante la cartograf\u00eda SAR.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El fabricante Lockheed Martin destaca que este radar no exige modificar la estructura principal, ya que se integra en la plataforma existente, por lo que incrementa la vigilancia a\u00e9rea y la capacidad de combate sin redise\u00f1ar el avi\u00f3n. Northrop Grumman tambi\u00e9n subraya su compatibilidad con sistemas de guerra electr\u00f3nica y enlaces de datos modernos, lo que ampl\u00eda su utilidad en misiones colaborativas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esa evoluci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n repercute en la doctrina militar. Durante a\u00f1os, volar bajo para escapar del radar fue una t\u00e1ctica habitual. Hoy, con sensores capaces de detectar aeronaves o drones que intentan mantenerse fuera del horizonte, ese recurso perdi\u00f3 efectividad. El AESA extiende la vigilancia y hace m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil atravesar defensas sin ser advertido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A nivel industrial, la tendencia hacia radares definidos por&nbsp;<em>software<\/em>&nbsp;abre otra puerta: la posibilidad de incorporar nuevas capacidades mediante actualizaciones digitales en lugar de cambios de&nbsp;<em>hardware<\/em>. En un escenario donde las amenazas cambian r\u00e1pido, que un radar pueda adaptarse mediante&nbsp;este sistema&nbsp;se vuelve tan relevante como su potencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los desaf\u00edos existen: los costos de integraci\u00f3n, la demanda energ\u00e9tica, la refrigeraci\u00f3n y la ciberseguridad, adem\u00e1s de la capacitaci\u00f3n que requieren t\u00e9cnicos y pilotos. Sin embargo, la direcci\u00f3n es evidente. Desde los cazas modernos hasta los radares terrestres y navales, la matriz activa dej\u00f3 de ser un proyecto futurista para convertirse en uno de los pilares de la vigilancia a\u00e9rea contempor\u00e1nea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los AESA no son un simple reemplazo de antenas. Son sensores capaces de ver m\u00e1s lejos, adaptarse mejor y sostener una vigilancia m\u00e1s confiable.
