Es curioso y casi parad\u00f3jico: el mundo se llena de aeronaves futuristas, y muchas aerol\u00edneas est\u00e1n redescubriendo que, a veces, lo simple, lo eficiente y lo probado son la mejor opci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La realidad del mercado es contundente: suben los costos del combustible, los salarios, el mantenimiento y, adem\u00e1s, hay menos pilotos disponibles. En las rutas cortas o medianas, donde no siempre llegan los aviones grandes, los turboh\u00e9lices ofrecen una alternativa mucho m\u00e1s razonable. Gastan menos, son m\u00e1s livianos, pueden aterrizar en pistas cortas y permiten mantener la conectividad entre ciudades que, de otro modo, quedar\u00edan fuera del mapa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATR, el fabricante franco-italiano m\u00e1s destacado en este segmento, asegura que sus modelos consumen hasta un 30 % menos por asiento que las aeronaves regionales a reacci\u00f3n, algo nada menor en tiempos de m\u00e1rgenes ajustados. A eso se suma que los turboh\u00e9lices pueden operar en aeropuertos peque\u00f1os, con infraestructura limitada, donde las unidades de mayor potencia no siempre pueden hacerlo. En otras palabras, vuelven a conectar destinos que hab\u00edan quedado fuera del circuito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n hay un tema humano detr\u00e1s. Las aerol\u00edneas chicas est\u00e1n perdiendo pilotos frente a las grandes, que pagan mejor. Entonces, simplificar las operaciones y usar las aeronaves m\u00e1s manejables y de menor complejidad se vuelve una forma de sobrevivir sin depender tanto de estructuras costosas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Claro que esto no significa retroceder. Los nuevos modelos de h\u00e9lice no tienen nada que ver con los viejos ruidosos de d\u00e9cadas pasadas. Son modernos, silenciosos, c\u00f3modos, con sistemas digitales y cabinas que nada envidian a las de un&nbsp;<em>jet<\/em>. Es volver a una tecnolog\u00eda cl\u00e1sica pero actualizada con todo lo que ofrece la ingenier\u00eda de hoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El cambio no pasa solo por las aerol\u00edneas. Muchos aeropuertos peque\u00f1os, que hab\u00edan quedado pr\u00e1cticamente sin tr\u00e1fico, pueden volver a tener vida si se adaptan a este tipo de operaciones m\u00e1s chicas con vuelos m\u00e1s frecuentes, pasajes m\u00e1s accesibles y una conexi\u00f3n real entre ciudades medianas o regiones tur\u00edsticas que hab\u00edan perdido conectividad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por supuesto, no todo es perfecto. Los aviones de h\u00e9lice son m\u00e1s lentos y, para ciertos trayectos largos o de alta demanda, los&nbsp;<em>jets<\/em>&nbsp;son m\u00e1s convenientes. Pero en el terreno intermedio \u2014rutas de una o dos horas, con 40 o 70 pasajeros\u2014 el equilibrio entre costo, eficiencia y practicidad vuelve a inclinar la balanza hacia ellos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En Am\u00e9rica Latina, este regreso puede tener un impacto fuerte. Nuestra geograf\u00eda llena de distancias medianas, con muchas ciudades intermedias y regiones que no siempre justifican un vuelo grande, se adapta justo con este tipo de aviaci\u00f3n. Puede ayudar a reactivar el turismo, mejorar la conectividad interna y hacer que volar deje de ser un lujo para volver a ser una opci\u00f3n l\u00f3gica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El retorno de los turboh\u00e9lices es una respuesta sensata a un contexto que exige repensar c\u00f3mo y para qui\u00e9n se vuela. Tal vez el futuro no est\u00e9 solo en las alas de los aviones m\u00e1s sofisticados, sino tambi\u00e9n en el redescubrimiento de la tecnolog\u00eda de las h\u00e9lices que, una vez m\u00e1s, vuelven
