(AEI) acaba de lanzar un nuevo programa que promete darle una segunda vida al Boeing 737-900ER: convertirlo en un carguero moderno, capaz y competitivo. La noticia fue dada a conocer el 24 de octubre y ya despert\u00f3 inter\u00e9s en todo el sector, en especial entre las compa\u00f1\u00edas que buscan ampliar su capacidad de transporte sin invertir en aeronaves nuevas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El proyecto se llama 737-900ERSF y propone transformar el avi\u00f3n de pasajeros en un modelo dedicado al transporte de carga. AEI planea obtener la certificaci\u00f3n de la&nbsp;Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)&nbsp;en 2029, y, luego, presentarlo ante las autoridades europeas. Si todo avanza como est\u00e1 previsto, ser\u00e1 el carguero de fuselaje estrecho con mayor volumen de su categor\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La reconversi\u00f3n implica un trabajo t\u00e9cnico de precisi\u00f3n: reforzar el piso para soportar m\u00e1s peso, instalar una barrera de seguridad en la cabina y abrir una gran puerta lateral, de casi dos metros y medio de alto, que permitir\u00e1 el ingreso de&nbsp;<em>pallets<\/em>&nbsp;est\u00e1ndar. El resultado ser\u00e1 un avi\u00f3n capaz de transportar hasta 26 000 kilos de mercanc\u00eda en 12 posiciones de carga, con el espacio suficiente para operaciones de log\u00edstica r\u00e1pida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detr\u00e1s del lanzamiento hay una lectura clara del mercado. La demanda de transporte a\u00e9reo de paquetes crece de la mano del comercio electr\u00f3nico, y las flotas dedicadas a ese segmento necesitan aeronaves vers\u00e1tiles, eficientes y con costos bajos. En lugar de fabricar nuevos equipos, AEI apuesta por aprovechar los 737-900ER que est\u00e1n quedando fuera del servicio de pasajeros: un reciclaje inteligente que combina econom\u00eda y sustentabilidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este tipo de programas ya se volvi\u00f3 una tendencia en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, sobre todo despu\u00e9s de la pandemia, cuando muchas aerol\u00edneas descubrieron que la carga pod\u00eda sostener ingresos mientras el tr\u00e1fico de personas ca\u00eda. La conversi\u00f3n a&nbsp;<em>freighter<\/em>&nbsp;permite extender la vida \u00fatil de modelos todav\u00eda s\u00f3lidos, pero que ya no resultan competitivos para vuelos regulares. En palabras simples: lo que antes llevaba turistas, ahora transporta comercio global.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El camino no est\u00e1 exento de desaf\u00edos. Obtener la aprobaci\u00f3n regulatoria lleva a\u00f1os, y cada modificaci\u00f3n \u2014desde la estructura hasta los sistemas el\u00e9ctricos\u2014 debe pasar por rigurosas pruebas de seguridad. AEI todav\u00eda no inform\u00f3 qu\u00e9 operador ser\u00e1 el primero en incorporar el 737-900ERSF ni cu\u00e1ntas unidades se convertir\u00e1n, pero se espera que los contratos iniciales se cierren durante 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los plazos, la propuesta refleja un cambio de \u00e9poca en la aviaci\u00f3n comercial: en lugar de apostar todo a lo nuevo, la industria empieza a mirar hacia lo que ya tiene, con la idea de adaptarlo a nuevas necesidades.
