La misi\u00f3n se llev\u00f3 a cabo desde el\u00a0T\u0101whaki National Aerospace Centre, en Christchurch, Nueva Zelanda, donde el veh\u00edculo despeg\u00f3 desde una pista convencional y alcanz\u00f3 los 20 500 metros de altitud, a una velocidad m\u00e1xima de\u00a0Mach 1,03.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El CEO de Dawn Aerospace,\u00a0Stefan Powell, destac\u00f3: \u201cEl \u00e9xito de la operaci\u00f3n refleja la esencia del dise\u00f1o del Aurora: brindar un acceso r\u00e1pido, repetible y econ\u00f3mico al borde del espacio, sin depender de lanzadores desechables ni de infraestructuras costosas\u201d. Y explic\u00f3 que \u201ca diferencia de los cohetes tradicionales, este veh\u00edculo puede despegar y aterrizar como un avi\u00f3n com\u00fan, lo que lo convierte en una plataforma atractiva para misiones sensibles al tiempo, como las dedicadas a la vigilancia del dominio espacial o al despliegue de instrumentos de observaci\u00f3n en \u00f3rbita baja\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para Scout Space, responsable de la carga \u00fatil, el vuelo marca un avance significativo en la manera en que se puede obtener informaci\u00f3n de inteligencia desde \u00f3rbitas muy bajas (VLEO, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). Su CEO,\u00a0Philip Hover-Smoot, explic\u00f3 que la combinaci\u00f3n entre un\u00a0<em>spaceplane<\/em>\u00a0reutilizable y sensores SDA abre un camino m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido y flexible que los sat\u00e9lites tradicionales, con la ventaja de poder lanzar instrumentos en cuesti\u00f3n de horas y sin depender de ventanas complejas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este vuelo se suma a una serie de avances que la empresa desarrolla desde hace pocos a\u00f1os. En 2024, el Aurora Mk-II alcanz\u00f3 el\u00a0Mach 1,12\u00a0a\u00a025,1 kil\u00f3metros\u00a0de altitud. De esta manera, se consolida como el primer veh\u00edculo de su tipo en superar la barrera del sonido desde una pista convencional.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dawn Aerospace acaba de lanzar su planeador al mercado, con planes de producci\u00f3n y entregas a partir de 2027. Seg\u00fan la empresa, el modelo se dise\u00f1\u00f3 para poder volar hasta\u00a0100 misiones en un solo d\u00eda, lo que representa un cambio radical frente a la l\u00f3gica de los veh\u00edculos espaciales tradicionales, que suelen ser de un solo uso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El respaldo gubernamental tambi\u00e9n fue clave en esta etapa. La Agencia Espacial de Nueva Zelanda y autoridades de defensa acompa\u00f1aron las pruebas del Aurora al considerar que un sistema de estas caracter\u00edsticas puede convertirse en un recurso estrat\u00e9gico con fines civiles y militares. De hecho, el proyecto se alinea con una tendencia m\u00e1s amplia: la b\u00fasqueda de plataformas reutilizables que permitan un acceso flexible y frecuente al espacio cercano para reforzar capacidades de monitoreo, telecomunicaciones y defensa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El \u00e9xito de esta demostraci\u00f3n posiciona al fabricante como el m\u00e1s innovador en el emergente sector de los\u00a0<em>spaceplanes<\/em>\u00a0reutilizables. Con cada vuelo, se refuerza la viabilidad de un concepto que, hasta hace poco, parec\u00eda ciencia ficci\u00f3n: veh\u00edculos que despegan como aviones, atraviesan la atm\u00f3sfera y regresan
