Este hecho, que parecer\u00eda extra\u00eddo de una obra de ciencia ficci\u00f3n, es parte del legado del helic\u00f3ptero Ingenuity, una de las m\u00e1s audaces iniciativas tecnol\u00f3gicas de la humanidad. Dise\u00f1ado originalmente para realizar cinco vuelos experimentales en el marco de una misi\u00f3n de 30 d\u00edas, Ingenuity no solo super\u00f3 esas expectativas, sino que oper\u00f3 durante casi tres a\u00f1os, complet\u00f3 72 vuelos y acumul\u00f3 m\u00e1s de dos horas de tiempo de vuelo en el exigente ambiente marciano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"11929\" src=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ingenuity-1-1024x504.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11929\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>El incidente, ocurrido el 18 de enero de 2024, durante el vuelo 72, marc\u00f3 el final de esta extraordinaria misi\u00f3n. El helic\u00f3ptero, que hab\u00eda despegado para un breve salto vertical destinado a evaluar sus sistemas y fotografiar el terreno, ascendi\u00f3 a 12 metros y, despu\u00e9s de permanecer 19 segundos en el aire, comenz\u00f3 su descenso. A los 32 segundos, ya estaba en la superficie, pero con las comunicaciones interrumpidas. Al d\u00eda siguiente, se restableci\u00f3 el contacto, y las im\u00e1genes recibidas seis d\u00edas despu\u00e9s revelaron graves da\u00f1os en las palas del rotor. Este evento no solo puso fin a la misi\u00f3n de Ingenuity, sino que tambi\u00e9n desencaden\u00f3 un riguroso an\u00e1lisis por parte de los ingenieros del Laboratorio de Propulsi\u00f3n a Chorro (JPL) de la NASA en el sur de California y AeroVironment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"11931\" src=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/1-pia26238-ingentuity-ripples-cropped-2.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11931\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCuando se lleva a cabo la investigaci\u00f3n de un accidente a 160 millones de kil\u00f3metros de distancia, no se dispone de cajas negras ni de testigos oculares\u201d, afirm\u00f3 H\u00e5vard Grip, primer piloto de Ingenuity y miembro del JPL. Sin embargo, con los datos disponibles, los especialistas lograron reconstruir una teor\u00eda plausible: el sistema de navegaci\u00f3n del helic\u00f3ptero, que depende de una c\u00e1mara orientada hacia abajo para rastrear caracter\u00edsticas del terreno, no pudo encontrar suficiente informaci\u00f3n visual en la regi\u00f3n del cr\u00e1ter Jezero, donde se encontraba. Esta \u00e1rea, compuesta por ondulaciones de arena empinadas y casi carente de texturas distintivas, present\u00f3 un reto insalvable para la tecnolog\u00eda de navegaci\u00f3n desarrollada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El sistema de navegaci\u00f3n de Ingenuity fue dise\u00f1ado para operar sobre superficies planas y texturizadas, con elementos como guijarros que permitieran a su c\u00e1mara rastrear el movimiento y calcular velocidades precisas. Durante los primeros vuelos, estas condiciones fueron suficientes, pero el terreno desafiante del vuelo 72 expuso las limitaciones del sistema. A los 20 segundos del despegue, el helic\u00f3ptero ya no pudo identificar suficientes caracter\u00edsticas del suelo para procesar, lo que, probablemente, provoc\u00f3 errores acumulativos en su sistema de navegaci\u00f3n. Estos errores desencadenaron una serie de eventos que culmin\u00f3 en el da\u00f1o de sus palas y el cese de la misi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aeroespacio.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/e3-pia26482-hard-landing-graphic-final.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11932\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Los hallazgos se est\u00e1n recopilando en un informe t\u00e9cnico que est\u00e1 pr\u00f3ximo a publicarse. Estos conocimientos podr\u00edan influir de manera directa en el dise\u00f1o de futuras aeronaves marcianas, como el conceptualmente llamado Mars Chopper.
