Cabe mencionar que, desde 2015, esta familia de sat\u00e9lites proporciona valiosa informaci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica a los cient\u00edficos, y Sentinel-2C garantizar\u00e1 la continuidad de esta din\u00e1mica. Adem\u00e1s, se suma un nuevo logro: el monitoreo de la basura marina desde el espacio, teniendo en cuenta lo cr\u00edtico que se ha vuelto este problema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los datos recopilados por los sat\u00e9lites Copernicus Sentinel-2 se utilizan para monitorear el uso y el cambio de la tierra, el sellado del suelo, la agricultura, la silvicultura, los desastres naturales (inundaciones, incendios forestales, deslizamientos de tierra, erupciones volc\u00e1nicas y la erosi\u00f3n) y para apoyo a las misiones de ayuda humanitaria. Tambi\u00e9n se incorpora a sus funciones el sondeo ambiental en el suministro de informaci\u00f3n sobre la contaminaci\u00f3n de los lagos y las aguas, al igual que el monitoreo de los glaciares, el hielo y la nieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por otro lado, la misi\u00f3n Sentinel-2 contribuye a la gesti\u00f3n de la seguridad alimentaria al monitorear el sector agr\u00edcola, que, junto al Instrumento Multiespectral (MSI), se convierte en la primera misi\u00f3n \u00f3ptica de observaci\u00f3n de la Tierra de su tipo que incluye tres bandas en el &#8220;borde rojo&#8221;, para el estudio en las condiciones de la vegetaci\u00f3n. El sat\u00e9lite est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para proporcionar im\u00e1genes sobre diferentes tipos de cultivos, el \u00edndice de \u00e1rea foliar, el contenido de clorofila y agua de las hojas, todos son esenciales para la observaci\u00f3n precisa del crecimiento de las plantas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sentinel-2C, al igual que sus predecesores Sentinel-2A y -2B, proporciona &#8220;visi\u00f3n en color&#8221; para Copernicus, el componente de Observaci\u00f3n de la Tierra del Programa Espacial de la Uni\u00f3n Europea (UE) que genera im\u00e1genes \u00f3pticas desde la regi\u00f3n infrarroja de onda corta del espectro electromagn\u00e9tico. Desde una altitud de 786 kil\u00f3metros, emite im\u00e1genes continuas en 13 bandas espectrales con resoluciones de 10, 20 o 60 metros, y un ancho de franja \u00fanica de 290 kil\u00f3metros. El dise\u00f1o \u00f3ptico MSI se ha mejorado para lograr proporcionar una mayor calidad de imagen de \u00faltima generaci\u00f3n en su amplio campo de visi\u00f3n, que se transmitir\u00e1 a trav\u00e9s de Space Data Highway (EDRS), el l\u00e1ser de Airbus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La estructura del telescopio y los espejos est\u00e1n hechos de carburo de silicio, un material iniciado por Airbus para proporcionar una alta estabilidad \u00f3ptica y minimizar la deformaci\u00f3n termoel\u00e1stica, arrojando una excelente calidad de imagen geom\u00e9trica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La misi\u00f3n se basa en una constelaci\u00f3n de dos sat\u00e9lites id\u00e9nticos, Sentinel-2A (lanzado en 2015) y Sentinel-2B (lanzado en 2017), volando en la misma \u00f3rbita pero a 180\u00b0 de distancia para optimizar la cobertura y volver a visitar el tiempo. Los sat\u00e9lites orbitan la Tierra cada 100 minutos y cubren todas las superficies terrestres, las grandes islas, las aguas interiores y costeras cada cinco d\u00edas. El Sentinel-2C reemplaz\u00f3 a su predecesor, Sentinel-2A, mientras que, en el futuro cercano, el Sentinel-2D reemplazar\u00e1 a Sentinel-2B para garantizar la continuidad de los datos m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta misi\u00f3n se concret\u00f3 gracias a la estrecha cooperaci\u00f3n entre la Comisi\u00f3n Europea, la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA), los proveedores de servicios y los usuarios de datos.
